From the Great Library of the Clayr, a selection of passages from Lirael’s journey.
OKAY so, I had a High Medieval Art History class this term and instead of an essay we were allowed to authentically recreate an art form from our lectures, so I chose to illuminate a manuscript using passages and content from Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom series, include Nick/Orannis’s song, the Five Charters, the warning rhyme of the dead and water and the titles of the Nercomancer’s bells. I completed it yesterday, using ink, tempera, and a gold foiling pen.
The motifs are all in reference to the Burney 275, a manuscript from 1310 by a Parisian illuminator, but I incorporated Abhorsen, Clayr and Charter based symbols. See what you can spot! I am really proud of this thing, might take better photos of it when I get it back from being marked.
This was sold this past weekend at Stumptown, which was an awesome show. I had a total blast and met some really cool people! As long as tumblr doesn’t mess with the formatting for this comic, I hope you all enjoy it.
Stretching my graphic design wings a little and making record sleeves and labels for classical pieces one of my characters has written. I’m making a series of eight for each piece. You won’t see the others until they’re all done.
“She borrows light that through the night mankind may all acclaim her. And truth to tell, she lights up well, so I for one don’t blame her. Ah, pray, make no mistake. We are not shy, we are very wide awake. The Moon and I.”
This is The Ghost Queen. She is flocked to by Lobocraspis griseifusa, a variety of moth that exclusively drinks tears.
A very large personal project I started last Christmas. I finally finished it! Normally I don’t get very sappy, but let me explain. I participated in a now concluded Roleplay called Catalyst. Set in a Steampunk-influenced, early 1900s Earth. It was very exciting, there were, Airships, Sky Pirates, mysterious insects, assassins sent by a mysterious group known as The Men in Tall Hats, and battles above the Parisan sky. The roleplay was so beloved by all of us I decided to do a character grid of the main cast.
